Meet Us…Best Buds!

We, Michele and Martha, have known each other for 32 years.  Our adventures began in a graduate class which led to many shared car rides over the mountain to UVA where we both earned a Masters in Reading Education.  The quest for learning has never stopped.  We taught together as reading specialists for about 12 years and then moved in different directions as literacy professionals for the rest of our teaching careers. Now, both retired, we worked together to grow and arrange flowers.  

It all started with a simple question to Martha.  “Will you help me grow flowers for my daughter’s wedding in July 2023?”  She wanted wild flowers, colorful flowers, and zinnias.  Lots of zinnias!!!   Michele’s grandmother always grew zinnias, but little did Michele know how many different types of zinnias there were and continue to be.  Those Binary Giants and zinnias with hints of LIME in their color are some of Michele’s favorites. It was through this experience that whet our appetites for growing more flowers.  

And so, after our wedding success, Martha saw an ad for selling at the Broadway Community Market on Saturdays.   We decided we wanted to share our flowers with others. In 2024 from May until September,  we sold cut flowers and arranged vases at the Broadway Community Market in Broadway, Virginia each Saturday. 

Currently, we each live on a farm and start and grow flowers on both farms which we love to share with others at the Broadway Community Market.
